Per Linde leads WPT Barcelona

144 players returned for Day 2 of the WPT Bracelona yesterday and by the close of play just 45 were still in contention for the €315,000 first prize.

Keen students of the WPT circuit will notice a familiar name at the head of the field in Barcelona. Per Linde finished in third place at the Aviation Club in Paris last week and has followed that excellent performance up with a dominant run in the WPT Spanish Championship. The Swede leads the chip counts going into Day 3 with 324,600, around 15k more than closest rivals Edgars Rupka from Latvia and Paulo de Silva from Portugal.

Spanish movie director Roberto Santiago Garcia is in fourth place on 160,700 with Atte Koskivirta in fifth on 157,100. As the last remaining PartyPoker qualifier the Finn is in line for a massive bonus should he go on to win the tournament. He'll pocket $500,000 if he seals the deal with other 23 PartyPoker qualifiers each getting a share of $500,000. “I am aware of the position I am sitting in – I have 23 other people cheering me on and I will do my best for them!” said the plucky Finn.

One of those people cheering him on will be British PartyPoker qualifier Ben Carpenter who was unlucky to have his pocket aces cracked by a straight. The only remaining Brit left in the field is multiple GUKPT winner Priyan de Mel who's in the middle of the pack on 77,200.

The top 36 will make the money with the bubble bursting later today. Join us for updates over the weekend.
