Family dynasties are nothing new in the poker world. Just think of the Brunsons, the Greenstiens the Lederers and the Boatmans. It's early days yet but it looks like the poker genes have passed through the Jackson family with Kelly Jackson, daughter of top UK pro Paul ‘Action’ Jackson, winning the latest leg of the Betfred Ladies Poker Tour.

The Betfred Ladies’ Poker Tour arrived in Birmingham yesterday, with over a hundred women turning out to have a shot at a place in the Grand Final plus a nice cash prize. In the end, Kelly Jackson – who is the daughter of noted pro Paul “Action” Jackson – took down the event for a £3,290 first prize.

“It was fantastic to win and I was shaking with excitement afterwards,” said Kelly, who now has the chance to claim a £20,000 poker sponsorship package for 2010 courtesy of Betfred in the Grand Final at London’s Western Club. “And as a student the prize money will come in very handy!”

In the end, Kelly reached the heads-up stage of the tournament with Harriot Wild – with a far larger chip stack, Kelly played with great caution before eventually calling Harriot’s all-in. She held AJ to Wild’s J3 and two aces on the flop sealed the deal.

Paul “Action” Jackson is a successful online and live tournament player, and a star of one of the most famous poker videos of all time, in which he competes against Full Tilt pro Phil Ivey in a 5-bet bluff pot.

Kelly joins Emily Curzon, Mel Lofthouse, Kim Jagger, Helen Firth and fellow Brummie Michelle Bricknell in the Grand Final where they will be competing for a Betfred sponsorship package worth £20,000. Joining them in the Grand Final will be winner of next month’s event in Calahonda, Spain plus the winner of the final regular tournament of the season in Acton in November. The line up will be completed by the winner of the points leaderboard, currently Sue Adams, plus an online qualifier.

Ladies, you can qualify for future events via Betfred. Fellas, you should play there anyway – they have a $600 sign-up bonus plus a monthly VIP scheme.
