Patrik Antonius is one of the highest level poker players in the world. This week he locked horns with another high-stakes regular, ‘pr1nnyraid’ on the $500/1000 No Limit table on Full Tilt Poker. While the session overall wasn’t a huge success for Antonius, he did scoop a $369,000 pot.
They say you either win a small pot or lose a big one with pocket aces, but that wasn’t the case here as the Finnish pro took the preflop nuts and turned them into a massive payday. Heads-up with ‘pr1nnyraid’, he limp-reraised out of the small blind, bumping the $4,000 bet out of the big blind up to $12,000. ‘pr1nnyraid’ made the call, and the flop came ace-high, with two spades (Ad-Ts-3s). Antonius led out for $15,000 and was smooth called, with his $32,000 bet on the 3d turn also being smooth called. With a pot at $118,000, the river Td was a perfect card for Antonius, who shoved his remaining $124,000 into the pot to be called by the Qd-Jd of ‘pr1nnyraid’. Want to know his thought processes? This is what ‘pr1nnyraid , aka Jason Rosenkrantz, had to say about the hand on his blog, www.dangerlion.com:
“Thought about shoving the turn but Pat had never limp reraised me, ever, so wasn’t sure what to make of it and defaulted to relying on the draw. Draw comes in, he can’t have a T, no idea if he’s bluffing (probably not, maybe some small % of the time), but I think he shoves AA (some of the time he probably tries to slowplay AA though?) and AK, maybe AQ. Really shitty spot that of course HAS TO HAPPEN when I’m playing 500/1k. I crushed Pat earlier in the day at 300/600 but obviously this hand comes up that makes me want to drop pumpkins off the roof and strangle kittens.”
That one has got to hurt…
