Earlier this week we brought you news that French players had been told to stop playing on the international PokerStars site. The French licensing authority ARJEL has now announced a second tranche of online poker licences and PokerStars alongside PartyPoker have each been awarded one.

The new PokerStars.fr domain will only be open to French players and will offer cash games, sit n go and multi table tournaments like its international equivalent.

“PokerStars.fr aims to be one of the leading online poker operators from the day the French market opens, offering players the best tournaments, promotions and opportunities to win seats at PokerStars world renowned international tournaments,” said PokerStars French Country Manager Alexandre Balkany.

PartyPoker has also been awarded a licence alongside ChiliPoker and Partouche Poker. Everest, Betclic and Bwin were the first poker sites to be awarded licences to operate in France earlier this month.
