In a poker era which still revels in the high stakes online cash games, it’s come as a surprise to hear Party Poker has closed the door on their own high stakes games.

The site has removed all No Limit Hold’em games of $10/20 or higher, with the limit games of $30/60 or bigger also being canned.

It is believed the move will help the site’s “poker ecology”, and with those big stakes tables no longer on offer, they obviously hope to keep as many of their customers on site for a longer spell, rather than have them burn through their deposits in games they’re not properly staked for.

The other downside of the higher stakes tables it that, generally, they are the realm of your site regulars, and the better ones at that. Those who do stray into the $10/20 games no longer have to worry about being the bum that was proverbially hunted.

The move is paired with Party’s foray into fast-fold poker later this year as well as merging the bwin Poker player base into Party Poker, which should the player pool swell considerably.

Players wanting to join the lower stakes action can do so at PartyPoker with a $50 welcome bonus. Sign up here.
