If you don’t fancy attending a live poker school and having your shortcomings as a player made obvious to all those present, then it seems the place to be is Party Poker. The internet giant has teamed up with the Poker Academy to offer a new online tutorial package, known as the Poker Trainer.
Available to download, the idea is that the software offers newcomers a chance to get their heads around the vagaries of Texas Hold’em before unleashing themselves on the world of online poker and returning with their tail between their legs and their wallets that bit lighter.
It appears that plenty of thought has gone into this process, with researchers at the University of Alberta trying to test Artificial Intelligence (AI) against a skill gaming application. Hopefully this means any newcomers aren’t eaten alive once they get onto the tables, although the chances of pros being able to spot those who’ve been training is, let’s be honest, very likely.
