Party Poker Million sees Russian Revolution

Tuesday, 3 March 2009

While Ivan the not-so-terrible-at-poker Demidov has been storming the live poker scene, it seems that the Russians are taking over online too.

1,591 players sat down across the virtual felt for the tournament for the $1m guaranteed tournament. The main honours went to SuperTight31 who finished first for $163,114.08, while fellow Russian P_L_A_N took third for $103,336.52. Denmark had three representatives within the final ten with LuckyLudvig second for $112,549.41, Kaspar19 fourth for $54,500 and hinker2000 ninth for $13,500. Representatives from Norway, Iceland, Sweden, Germany and the United Kingdom also made the final table. A total of 1591 players took part in the tournament which had a $1,000,000 prize pool and paid out 200 places.

A PartyPoker.com spokesman said: “The rise of Russia in the poker world has been acknowledged for some time and the second PartyPoker.com Monthly Million was very much dominated by two very strong players from that country. A few years ago you would have said that the strongest Russian online players were those that played in big Limit games but the situation now is very different. The main plaudits go to SuperTight31 who spectacularly failed to live up to his name after taking top honours.”
