In what one executive has deliriously termed the “NASCAR of poker”, FOX have announced they are to develop a Pokerdome in downtown Las Vegas, allowing spectators to watch live poker action in the open air. Although spectators are nothing new at the baize, this outdoor arena will allow them to see players cards as they are dealt via a TV screen, rather than having to wait for the showdown. This way, FOX hope to give an insight into how the pros bluff and make so much money with sometimes terrible hands.
Players will also be linked up to heart monitors and there will be secret cameras on the table.
Any concerns over viewers shouting out tips to the pros have been put aside, as the games will take place behind soundproof glass, hence the name Pokerdome. Creating a poker zoo is surely the next logical step as the game becomes a national phenomenon. The venue is part of Neonopolis, a struggling mall that is hoping FOX’s patronage will bring in some much needed cash. You can find out by tuning into FOX sports every Sunday to find out.
