The Gambling Commission in the UK has found that online poker is the second most popular method of online gambling in the UK. Online access for a punt on the UK’s National Lottery takes first place and 3% of the adults questioned have used their mobile phone to gamble. The figures for adults who have accessed gambling sites online were up 5.3% on last year’s figure to a total of 6.7%.
Accordingly, many businesses are looking to partner up with other related businesses to raise their profile. There are rumours that PartyGaming is in discussions with 888.com to challenge Sportingbet’s lead.
Online poker and sportsbetting site Bodog are also planning to hit the UK market soon. Maverick Calvyn Ayres has captured American Youth with the site’s innovative contests, (battle of the bands) and poker reality shows akin to Big Brother with cards.
AOL will also be looking to offer poker online, maximising its existing customer base. The company, which is under separate management in the UK, has made optimistic announcements about partnering with JAXX UK, which is the UK arm of German outfit FLUXX AG, known for its online lottery and sports wagering businesses. In addition to this, further expansion into Europe is also planned. These services will not be available in the US.
More excellent bonuses and freerolls can be expected from all these sites; as the temperature rises, so must the incentives for online poker players and affiliates.
