The Ongame poker network has announced that it is to introduce the concept of heat tournaments to make it easier for online poker players to participate in tournaments with big starting fields.
Heat tournaments are where large events are broken up into several sessions with different starting times to let players from around the globe join the action without the need for marathon playing encounters or sleep deprivation. Large poker events such as the World Series Of Poker’s (WSOP) Main Event already feature heat tournaments, which are also known as ‘flights’.
The first opportunity for players to experience this new format will be during the 17th edition of the Grand Tournament, running on Ongame sites such as HollywoodPoker.com, with the first heat beginning Friday with a second on Saturday.
'We can now do a better job of tailoring our partners' tournaments in accordance with the habits, geographical origin and overall scheduling demands of their customers,” said Tomer Katz, Spokesperson for Ongame.
“Secondly, players can participate in tournaments with even bigger fields than before without the drawback of having to dedicate more than a few hours at a time in order to be able to finish them.”
