Not content setting up a successful UK-based poker league, Steve Bellis has decided to take on a new project, catering for poker players who want to mix their favourite pastime with a little break in the sun.
Bellis has joined forces with a travel business in Holywell to provide poker holidays at the Sands Beach Resort in Costa Teguise in Lanzarote. The idea is already up and running, with the first holiday attracting 50 players.
Speaking to Wrexham’s ‘Evening Leader’ newspaper, he described the trip as a success, and he then spoke to travel firm TR4 Travel about the possibility of expanding the trip to provide for upto 120 people. The negotiations went well, and the trip is now planned for June this year.
Spotting a gap in the market was Bellis’ main motivation to launching the new initiative. Those holidays which are on offer for poker players tend to be heavily geared towards Las Vegas and the more serious poker player, whilst many would prefer a relaxing time in the sun and bit of fun on the tables.
'We wanted to offer something that was a bit closer to home, more relaxed and less expensive,' he said in the article.
