Controversy has broken out after it emerged that Poker Stars is looking into suspicions of multi-accounting by its Main Event winner. “TheV0id” won his first online event with Poker Stars on Sunday, when he netted just over $1.2m for first place in what many consider the year’s premier online event. Suspicions were heightened when members of the poker community noted it was in fact their first ever tournament on ‘Stars.
Speculation has been rife on the possible identity of the player, but the fact that investigations are still being carried out four days after the event shows there has to be some genuine concern on Poker Stars’ part. The company has a very good level of customer service and communication, and it will be keen to avoid a tarnished reputation. We can be sure that it will look into this very thoroughly and then explain its findings to the poker community.
The WCOOP series wasn’t short of incident this year, with 2004 World Champion Greg Raymer even being accused of unethical conduct by one player on his way to taking down Event 6, the PL Omaha with rebuys. Raymer seemingly suffered from connection problems shortly before making the final table of the event which he eventually overcame to win $168,000.
