Norwegian Pro's Big Smash

Norwegian Pro's Big Smash

Thursday, 8 May 2014

2014 has certainly been a year to forget for Petter Northug. The international skier and sometime high stakes poker player failed to defend his gold medal at the Sochi Olympics and the Norwegian has now made headlines after totalling his car.

Northug, who plays online as 'NorthugJr', wrote off his Audi in Trondheim after crashing in the early hours of Sunday morning. His manager, Are Soerum Langaas, confirmed that the 28-year-old had been driving while intoxicated. Northug had originally fled the scene of the accident but was tracked down to a nearby house by police dogs.

"Petter Northug has confirmed to the police in Trondheim that it was he who drove the car that was involved in an accident on Sunday morning," said Langaas in a statement.

A 23-year-old passenger suffered a broken collar bone following the smash.

Looking at pictures of the crash it's lucky that the pair emerged relatively unscathed.
