Day Three took little time shedding some of the 32 players who had made it thus far in the Pokerstars.net European Poker Tour Prague Main Event. Having been heavily chipped up on Day 2, Jose Navarro learned just how cut-throat the game can be when he ended up being eliminated half way through the third day.
Navarro’s last hand was particularly cruel, especially when he had done all a good poker player can hope for. His chips found their way into the centre while he was favourite, his pocket Kings (Kc-Kd) having the lead on Kristian Kjondal’s Ad-Qd. The flop came an auspicious Jc-Tc-7d, giving Kjondal an extra two outs with the remaining kings along with the three aces in the deck. The turn was the 2c though, meaning the Ac was no longer a winning card for Kjondal as it would give Navarro a winning flush. Down to four outs, the river brought the other black ace though, the As cruelly sending Navarro to the sidelines.
With Navarro’s elimination the final two tables were redrawn and it was at this stage that Norinder became very active, knocking out three of the next four players. With all this action, it seemed right for Norinder to be involved in the last hand of the day. All the money went in preflop and Norinder’s Ah-Qh was drawing slim against Christer Johansson’s pocket queens. The A-5-5 flop was enough to send Johansson out of the tournament, and Norinder to the chip lead coming into the final table. Norinder closed play with 1,036,000, with Arnaud Mattern in second on 980,000.
