One of the main publicity coups for the APPT Macau event was the return to the table of the 2007 World Champion, Jerry Yang. Yang has been keeping a very low profile since winning the title this summer, and many were looking forward to seeing he would fare at this event.
Yang’s comeback had to be postponed though as he was a no show for the Poker Stars event in China. According to various sources, Yang had Visa issues preventing him from entering Hong Kong. He is an American resident but holds refugee status, meaning he needed a visa to enter Hong Kong. He was turned away inside the airport and had to return to the US.
It means that the rest of us are going to have to wait to see the return of Yang on the felt, and to see what kind of ambassador he will be for the game. Qualifiers for the final leg of the APPT tour in Sydney are currently running on Poker Stars, with a ‘steps’ format making it a great value way of getting to the tournament. Perhaps Yang will make it to that one…
