New cheating scandal online – German player accused

Tuesday, 1 November 2011

Another cheating scandal has reportedly emerged in the online poker community, though thankfully on a much smaller scale. It is reported that two high stakes players fell victim to a scam from an unnamed German player who used a Trojan Horse virus to view his opponents’ hole cards.

A Swiss player lost $350,000 and an Austrian player $40,000 to the German player who lives in the UK. All three were in Baden, Austria, for the same poker tournament and high stakes cash games that we reported attracted the likes of Patrik Antonius and Benny Spindler yesterday.

It is alleged that the two players who lost money made their way into the German player’s hotel room and he confessed. When the police were called, he then withdrew his admission and claimed that he was forced to confess. The police are currently investigating the case.
