Catering for what owners say is part of the burgeoning poker scene, an upstate New York casino has opened a huge new poker room. While it's aimed at all ages, the main man at the Turning Stone casino, Jason DiBenedetto, says that the focus of the new room has been college students looking to bulk up their income and relax away from the books.
DiBenedetto says that the growth in poker on TV, especially on channels like ESPN, has meant that more and more people at college are interested in taking the game up, even if just to pass time - and he's basing this in experience.
Before taking this job, DiBennedetto did the same thing. In all, the students, as well as the local population, will be able to enjoy 32 tables which will allow 300 players at any one time. That plus a plethora of screens and monitors for those sitting at the bar to watch and comment on. The fact that a small town is willing to invest in poker like this is surely a sign of how far the game has come in recent years.
