New Regulations for Online Poker in Italy

New Regulations for Online Poker in Italy

Friday, 31 July 2009

The Italian legislature has announced a series of reforms aimed at restricting online activities, including poker.

Italian players can now only play on sites with an ‘Italy's State Monopolies Autonomous Administration’ (AAMS) license. Even then they will be restricted to tournaments, as cash games aren’t allowed and players will only be able to compete for a restricted number of hours each day. Similarly, Italian players will only be able to play on sites with an Italian ISP, effectively preventing them from international online tournaments.

Despite the problems online, live poker in Italy does appear to be in rude health. 220 players bought in for Day 1A of the €2000+200 IPT Venice yesterday with another bumper field expected on Day 1B. The action comes to a conclusion on Sunday.
