The slow but steady recovery of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina is about to get a lift from the world of poker. This week, the World Series of Poker circuit tournament kicks off at Harrah’s in the Big Easy, with the $10,000 Main Event due to take place in a week’s time. Organisers are hoping that the tourney can bring in some much needed money and lighten the mood in the town. New Orleans has already been boosted by the recent Jazzfest and performances from the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Dave Matthews. While the town is not close to being back to normal, the aim of the WSOP is to give people a sense of fun and escape from the daily grind. One of the circuit events is due to be shown on ESPN, with plenty of the games top pros due to put in an appearance too.
