Provisionally entitled Poker King and set to be directed by Chan Hing-Kai and Janet Chun, the film will tell the story of two bitter rivals competing for championship glory.

The film will feature famous Chinese actors including Louis Koo, Sean Lau Ching-Wan, Stephy Tang, Cherrie In and Josie Ho and could have the same effect on poker in Asia as the 1998 Hollywood film Rounders did for the western world.

The APT Macau Festival will run from August 12 to 23 at the Galaxy StarWorld Hotel And Casino in Macau with a buy-in set at $4,300. Aside from the main event, the tournament is featuring a large range of side events to appeal to all tastes and is being supported by the iPoker Network, Titan Poker, DafaPoker, PKR, PartyPoker, 32Red Poker, BetFriends, Ongame Network, Red Kings, 888.com and Bwin.

“This is a very exciting project and is sure to provoke even more excitement about the APT Macau Festival in August,” said Tom Hall, Chief Executive Officer for AsianLogic Limited, owners of the APT.

“Players across the region and throughout the world are encouraged to come to the Galaxy StarWorld Hotel And Casino and play at the APT Macau Festival. The movie crew will need lots of extras and even players to take on roles if they choose.”

There have been several famous gaming films for the region, most notably the 1989 Chinese-language God Of Gamblers starring Chow Yun-Fat that spawned dozens of spin-offs, but Poker King is set to be the first release specifically focusing on poker.
