Neil Raine wins GUKPT Stockton

Monday, 13 May 2013

It's been quite the start to 2013 for Neil Raine. The Englishman pocketed €60,000, his biggest live score to date, after winning the France Poker Series Main Event in Evian in March and added another £17,690 to his bankroll over the weekend after a big win on home soil.

Raine outlasted a field of 116 runners who had gathered at the G Casino in Stockton for the latest leg of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour.

Raine went into the last day with the chip lead and was largely untroubled throughout, working his way through a final table that included WSOP bracelet winner Lawrence Gosney and the prolific Tom Hall. After getting a bit of luck with AQ to bust Stephen Sung's KK in third, Raine took on Dave Collins heads up.

After a cagey battle, the chips eventually hit the middle about an hour and a half in with Raine's top pair and flush draw in great shape against Collins' third pair. The turn and river changed nothing, giving Raine his second major score in less than two months. Throw in another €5,474 for a final table appearance at the Belgian Poker Challenge in April and you've got quite the hot streak.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1st - £17,690 - Neil Raine
2nd - £12,470 - Dave Collins
3rd - £7,830 - Stephen Sung
4th - £4,930 - Tom Hall
5th - £4,060 - Lawrence Gosney
6th - £2,900 - John Bousfield
7th - £2,320 - Chris Howden
8th - £1,740 - Chris Green-Smith
9th - £1,450 - Dave Maudlin

The GUKPT heads south to Portsmouth next month.
