Negreanu wins final PartyPoker Premier League heat

Thursday, 18 February 2010

The sixth leg of the PartyPoker Premier League had a fancy dress theme but having the likes of Darth Vader and Kermit the Frog sitting at the table didn’t distract Daniel Negreanu from the task in hand.

Kid Poker was facing elimination heading into the final leg of this year’s PartyPoker Premier League but a very strong showing saw him take the win to set up a heads up playoff with JC Tran for a place at the final table.

Negreanu needed all of his powers of concentration to stay focussed facing the likes of Roland de Wolfe dressed as Darth Vader and Tony G who sported a rather fetching Kermit the Frog mask. Luke Schwartz was missing for the early levels and was replaced by a stuffed toy.

The fancy dress proved futile though as Negreanu powered his way through the field to set up a heads up clash with Phil Hellmuth. The Brat needed a win in this heat to make the heads up play off but came up just short after his K9 push was called by Negreanu’s Aces. Hellmuth picked up $22,000 for his runners up finish but was eliminated from the tournament. Joining him on the rail are Tony G, Vanessa Rousso and Yevgeniy Timoshenko.

Negreanu said, "Man that was such a rocky road! It was so weird because
Luke was never there and then he was and picks up aces when I have an
Ace - just a crazy crazy day. I thought third was going to be enough bar
a few scenarios but those scenarios turned up, Roland did real good and
I had to make sure I got heads-up."

The final table will comprise Phil Laak, David Benyamine, Giovanni Safina and Luke Schwartz plus the winners of the Daniel Negreanu v JC Tran and Ian Frazer v Roland de Wolfe heads up play off matches.

The play offs and final table action takes place later today. Join us tomorrow for all the results.
