Negreanu to face Liverpool’s Pepe Reina in a prop bet penalty shoot out?

Negreanu to face Liverpool’s Pepe Reina in a prop bet penalty shoot out?

Monday, 5 October 2009

As Teddy Sheringham’s recent excellent performance in the WSOPE proves the links between football and poker are strong - the much-travelled striker isn’t the only footballer to fall in love with the game. Italian forward Christian Vieri and French coach Raimond Domenech are both said to be considering a career on the felt rather than grass.

There aren’t too many instances of poker players moving in the opposite direction though. That could be about to change if reports in The Sun are to be believed. Daniel Negreanu is said to have struck a penalty shoot out wager with Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina. If Kid Poker can beat the Spanish stopped with any of five penalties then he’ll win £12,000. Should he miss them all then Reina will scoop the cash.

The whole affair isn’t as unlikely as it sounds, as Reina is a very keen poker player. The Liverpool keeper has played at a number of events including this year’s Ante Up For Africa tournament at the EPT Championship in Monte Carlo.
