Negreanu on Hellmuth: he’s delusional

Tuesday, 15 December 2009

The current cash game running at Poker After Dark on NBC is a tough one – Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Tom Dwan, Gus Hansen, Patrik Antonius and Phil Ivey are surrounding the table with millions of dollars at stake.

Negreanu has made it quite evident who he sees as the table’s weak spot, and he won’t find much disagreement from much of the poker community. He has cross-booked Phil Hellmuth’s action, meaning that if Hellmuth loses he will have to pay Negreanu an amount equal to his loss.

"Ivey, Durr [sic], and Patrik just play at another level,” Negreanu wrote in his blog at Full Contact Poker. “In order to compete with them you have to work very hard, play lots of hours, and study your weaknesses. I'm willing to admit they are far better than I am at no limit cash games, but I think Hellmuth actually believes he is the "best no limit hold'em player in the world by far," (his words not mine).

“He's either lying to the public when he makes those statements, or, he genuinely believes that. Either way, he's either lying or completely delusional.”
