Negreanu Still on Course for EPT Grand Final Success

Wednesday, 8 May 2013

Daniel Negreanu was amongst those dominating the action as Day 1B of the PokerStars EPT Grand Final came to a conclusion yesterday.

Following on from an initial opening day that saw Dan Smith finish top of the 53 survivors with 136,500 chips, it was Victor Sbrissa who ended yesterday’s session with the largest stack.

Despite the likes of JC Alvarado and Annette Obrestad enjoying profitable starts to the day – indeed, Annette found herself on the right side of an aces versus kings cooler against Philippe Ktorza – it was Sbrissa who raked in a table-topping 224,800 chips at the close of play.

Throughout the session 423 pros took the felt, including Andrew Lichtenberger (137,800), Igor Kurganov (127,900), Daniel Negreanu (88,600) and Jason Mercier (48,200). However, while a number of famous faces survived, many more hit the rail as the field was cut to just 215 runners.

As yet the prizepool hasn’t been announced but already the organisers know that this year’s field is smaller than last year’s 665 entrants. However, the field has still managed to break the 500 player mark and with more action to come later in the week, including the possibility of a €1 million buy-in cash game, this year’s festival will certainly still be hailed as a success.
