More Players Named for Caesars Cup

Thursday, 20 August 2009

The inaugural Caesars Cup is to be played at this year’s Betfair-sponsored World Series of Poker Europe in London this September. More players have been announced for the American and European teams, making this tournament a potential explosion of poker talent.

Team America’s captain, PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu, already picked Full Tilt Poker’s Phil Ivey to join him in the manner of the captain on the playground football team immediately going for the best player before anyone else can nab them.

In addition, the two are joined now by Phil Hellmuth and John Juanda, the latter of whom will also be attempting to defend his World Series of Poker Europe Main Event title.

Team Europe now consists of the captain, Betfair's own Annette Obrestad, who will be backed by world champion Peter Eastgate, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier and Dario Minieri, fresh from his High Stakes Poker debut.

Modelled after golf's Ryder Cup, the Caesars Cup is a team competition between the old and new continents. Each complete team will feature seven pros and an online qualifier, who will play heads-up matches, tournaments and prop bets to win.

You can still qualify for the WSOPE at Betfair.
