Mohamed Ali Houssam wins WPT Marrakech

Monday, 28 November 2011

The final table of nine players has been reduced to one champion with Mohamed Ali Houssam besting a tough final to take down the WPT Marrakech title at Casino Es Saadi in Morocco.

The Day 1 chip leader began facing off against French pros Arnaud Mattern and Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier as well as 2010 WSOP champion Jonathan Duhamel. After a disastrous fight with Lex Veldhuis, ElkY hasn’t given up the day job. He was knocked out in less brutal fashion than a kick to the head, though he did run top pair into a set.

Duhamel reduced the number of French speakers at the table soon after, busting in seventh after 3-betting all-in with Q-T and getting a call from tens. Arnaud Mattern was the last big French name to leave, busting in fourth place when his A-8 couldn’t overtake 7-7.

Mohamed Ali Houssam was heads-up with fellow Moroccan Toufik Ourini, level in chips. The eventual winner had a marginal lead when his flopped set held against Ourini’s top pair, securing the title. The final table payouts were as follows:

1. Mohamed Ali Houssam - $267,011 + $25,000 WPT Championship seat
2. Toufik Ourini - $166,374
3. Maksim Martinov - $107,340
4. Arnaud Mattern - $69,778
5. Hassan Fares - $50,991
6. Rodney Assous - $41,322
7. Jonathan Duhamel - $33,815
8. Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier - $30,699
9. Sebastein Ta - $28,013
