Mitchell Johnson Takes Control at GUKPT Grand Final

Saturday, 23 November 2013

Just like his Australian cricketing namesake the poker playing Mitchell Johnson enjoyed a great day yesterday. The man from Derby dominated proceedings on day 1b of the GUKPT Grand Final at the Vic and in the process built himself a hefty lead at the head of the chip counts.

Johnson will return today with a stack of 227,600 and a lead of 26,000 over nearest rival Simon Deadman. All told, the second opening flight attracted 206 entries with 88 making it through to the close. Notables still in the hunt for the £158,700 pay day include EPT Loutraki winner Zimnan Ziyard (134,725), Sky Poker pundit Ryan Spittles (111,000), Spain's Ana Marquez (108,425) and Bluff Europe columnist Ben Jackson (95,800). Further back are the likes of Tony Cascarino, Ludovic Geilich, Willie Tann and WSOP bracelet winner Craig McCorkell.

They will join the 44 day 1a survivors later today to battle it out for a guarantee busting prize pool of £588,000.
