Minieri dominates day two of the PCA High Roller

Wednesday, 13 January 2010

Dario Minieri is on course to pick up back-to-back EPT High Roller titles after dominating Day 2 at the PCA in the Bahamas yesterday. The Italian, who collected $115,000 for winning in Warsaw, albeit against a nine-runner field, holds a handy chip lead heading into day three later today.

The three-time EPT Main Event finalist saved the best till last, winning a monster pot against day one chip leader Lex Veldhuis just before the close of play. All the chips went in with Minieri’s pocket kings holding up against the Dutchman’s suited Ace King.

Michiel Brummelhuis heads the pack chasing Minieri followed by Tobias Reinkemeier and Dmitry Stelmak. Other big names still in the hunt include World Champions Greg Raymer and Joe Cada and EPT Dortmund winner Sandra Naujoks.

Mike Matusow’s run of good fortune came to an end yesterday courtesy of Carter Phillips. The Mouth called the EPT Barcelona winner’s K8 shove with AQ but two pair on the flop gave Phillips the pot and eliminated Matusow. Joining him on the rail yesterday were Andre Akkari, William Thorson, Justin "BoostedJ" Smith.

The remaining 24 players will return to the tables at 5pm UK time. The top 16 finishers will make the money with the winner taking a first prize of $576,240.
