Mike Sexton and Mike Matusow headline Bay 101 final table

Friday, 18 March 2011

The World Poker Tour had a St. Patrick’s Day to remember as the final six players at the Bay 101 Shooting Star event were determined last night and what a final table it is! Ordinarily, Vivek Rajkumar would be stealing headlines – the LAPC runner-up has made very impressive back-to-back final tables on the WPT.

However, as he was outshone by Carlos Mortensen going for number four at the LAPC; so he is outshone here by not only the presence of Full Tilt’s Mike Matusow but also World Poker Tour commentator Mike Sexton, who when this airs will have to leave Vince Van Patten alone in the booth calling the action.

Despite spots on televised single table tournaments or leagues, Matusow hasn’t been seen at a major open final table since two brief appearances before bust-outs in sixth place at prior WPT events in 2007 and 2008. Hopefully this time The Mouth can last a little longer and jump up the pay ladder. He arrives third in chips and the Matt Savage tournament gives him over a hundred big blinds with that stack.

Chip leader is Steven “PokerMaestros” Kelly, who won his first World Series of Poker bracelet in a $1,500 NL shootout event as well as picking up two other cashes in his first WSOP aged 21; he’ll be looking to add another seven-figure score to his total earnings with the first prize at this event.
