One of the most glamorous and talked about poker tournaments in the world, PokerParty.com’s Million V on the MS Westerdam, threw up plenty of surprises when it came to its conclusion this weekend in the Caribbean.
Of the 528 participants and partygoers who boarded the boat having turned over $10,000 each to take part, 99 of them took home winnings. The biggest shock however came in the form of Mike Schneider, a 22-year-old college student, who took home the top prize by beating the far more experienced Kenna James, who picked up $700,000 for second place.
Schneider, who studies at the University of Minnesota, also outlasted poker celebrities Barry Greenstein, Joe Sebok and Amir Vahedi, but best of all last year’s champion Michael Gracz. The rise of new young talent seems to be continuing apace.
