Middleton Heads EPT Final Table

Middleton Heads EPT Final Table

Saturday, 7 September 2013

Day 5 of the EPT Barcelona Main Event ended as it began with Britain's Tom Middleton atop the chip counts. That doesn't quite do justice to the roller coaster day that the Englishman endured, going from top to virtually bottom then back into the lead again.

Middleton dropped to below 1m chips at one stage and was in danger of elimination. A timely double up to eliminate Madis Muur in 12th place put him back on track and he rode that momentum to the close to eventually bag up 9,850,000 chips.

Hopes for a maiden Spanish EPT victory were high but the home rail was left disappointed when the last Spaniard, Alejandro Perez Torres, was eliminated in ninth.

One thing we can say for certain is that the EPT Barcelona Main Event winner will be a European with all eight finalists hailing from the continent. Who it will be though remains very much in the air. Who'd bet against Middleton topping for the field again at the end of today?

The action resumes at 1pm local time.
