Middle East Poker Championship starts today

Cyprus isn't usually considered part of the Middle East but it most certainly is as far as the poker world is concerned, for this week at least. The Merit Crystal Cove Hotel and Casino in the northern part of the island is playing host to the Middle East Poker Championship from today until 17 April.

The seven-day festival, hosted by Full Tilt Pros Kelly Kimand Hülya Pehlivanlar, kicks off this afternoon and features ten events including bounty, turbo, rebuy, freezeout and heads up tournaments with buy ins starting from $275.


Top of the bill is the $4,400 buy-in Main Event which gets starts on Saturday and features a guaranteed prize pool of $400,000. Satellites to the Main Event will be running throughout the week. All told, the week's events are expected to feature prize pools of around $1m.
