Michael Mizrachi in the taxman’s bad books – owes $339k

The US newspaper, the Sun Sentinel, reports that High Stakes Poker star and two-time WPT winner Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi is in some trouble with the law and facing foreclosure for owing $339,000 in taxes.

Mizrachi has addressed the issue, claiming he had a “bad accountant” who has since been fired. He has “hired a better one” and is aiming to settle the discrepancy. Both Mizrachi’s home and rented condo are up for sale at less than half the purchase price, causing The Grinder to estimate that he lost over $600,000 on the property market.

"Obviously, I'm a better poker player than a businessman, but I'm getting better," he said. "I've smartened up.”

Mizrachi has career earnings of over $6.5m including two WPT titles and 19 money finishes at the WSOP. He first won a WPT in 2005 for $1.85m.
