Michael Martin wins EPT London 2008

Monday, 6 October 2008

A historic fightback from the man who many thought to be dead in the water with four to go landed American Michael Martin a monumental win at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino in the heart of London.

The year of the pro couldn’t quite continue in its previous form as David Benyamine was eliminated in 12th place, a stone’s throw from the final table. Aside from CardRunners instructor Eric “p3achykeen” Liu it was an unknown affair, with several of the final tablists having made final tables at the EPT without landing first prize. Liu ended up finishing in 4th place, winning £234,920.
Michael Martin was virtually out with four players left, nursing a very shortstack. However, a nice rush of cards coupled with some well-timed moves saw him fight back, culminating in his 44 holding up against the K9 of namesake Michael Tureniec.
