…on the big screen that is. Hayden Christensen, who portrayed Darth Vader in the Star Wars prequels, is set to play an even more fearsome character: WSOP legend and all-round poker brat Phil Hellmuth.
The upcoming film, ‘The Madison Kid’ will focus on Hellmuth’s rise to fame as he becomes the youngest ever world champion by winning the WSOP Main Event aged just 24.
Risking the fury of his family, Hellmuth dropped out of university to pursue his poker dream, going on to beat the back-to-back champ Johnny Chan at the 1989 Championships.
This year sees a glut of poker films released as Hollywood cashes in on the current poker boom. Later this year, Eric Bana will appear as a professional player falling in love and confronting his estranged father over the tables in Curtis Hanson’s ‘Lucky You’. And Burt Reynolds stars as a seasoned old poker dog teaching a young kid the ropes in the ‘Color Of Money’-esque ‘Deal’.
‘The Madison Kid’ is due to start shooting in Canada this spring.
