Matt Brady wins the Aruba Classic

Yes, they have been playing poker outside of London in the last couple of weeks. I know, I know, it confused us too, but in a place outside of the M25, the Aruba Classic has been won by Matt Brady. Brady, who has earned around $750,000 in tournament winnings without a single 'big' score has remedied that now, beating Johann Storakers heads-up for the $1,000,000 first place prize.

Heading into the final table, Storakers was the chip leader with 2,027,000. However his day didn't start well, when his four-bet with Ace-King against Jeff Papola proved to be unwise. Papola moved in with pocket Aces and Storakers found himself pot commited with AK, calling off the remaining chips and losing a huge pot.

Storakers did well to claw his way back into contention, and after winning a key race with pocket jacks against Ace-King, he found himself in good shape three-handed with Papola and Brady. In a huge hand between Storaker's opponents, Papola got his money in on a three-spade flop with the Kc-Ks, only to run into the flopped flush of Brady. No more spades for Papola meant Brady took a 6-1 chip lead to the heads-up stage, which he duly converted after flopping trip tens on a J-T-T board against the top pair, top kicker of Johan. When you run good, you run good...
