Massive line-up for WSOPE Heads-Up High Roller

Massive line-up for WSOPE Heads-Up High Roller

Wednesday, 22 September 2010

The penultimate event before the Main Event of the World Series of Poker Europe carried the same hefty £10,300 price tag as the feature tournament, but the heads-up format promised to bring the cream of the crop to the event.

It appears the cream of the crop is 103 players, because that’s the total who built a seven-figure prize pool and £290,000 first prize to this event. One of the media buzzes of the day was when Viktor Blom turned up at The Empire and briefly introduced himself to Tom “durrrr” Dwan, who lost over $5.5m to Isildur1 at Full Tilt Poker.

Blom and Dwan were joined by Sam Trickett, Justin “BoostedJ” Smith, Vanessa Rousso, Jake Cody, Erik Seidel, Praz Bansi, Michael Mizrachi, WSOPE 2010 bracelet-winner Jeff Lisandro, Mike Matusow, Chris Ferguson, Daniel “jungleman12” Cates and Andy Bloch – and that’s just those who didn’t survive their first one or two matches.

However, a wealth of talent still remains in the field. Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Neil Channing, Gus Hansen, Ram Vaswani, Howard Lederer, Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies, Yevgeniy Timosheno, Chris Moorman and Andrew Robl all return tomorrow for the last 32. Each of the last 16 is guaranteed £22,847 with the semi-finalists taking almost £100,000 and £288,409 to the winner.
