Marvin Rettenmaier wins WPT World Championship

Monday, 28 May 2012

Marvin Rettenmaier has won the World Poker Tour World Championship and $1,196,858 after defeating Philippe Ktorza heads-up at the Bellagio. With that he wins the WPT bracelet, his name on the trophy and a freeroll to the same event next year.

He began the final table with almost half the chips in play and despite stiff competition from WPT final regulars and former champions Steve O’Dwyer, Nick Schulman and Michael Mizrachi, reached heads-up play.

The heads-up match was a rollercoaster, lasting three hours and featuring no less than eight instances where one player doubled up through another before a cooler finished things off – Ktorza ran jacks into kings, which held to give the German the title.

The full final table payouts were as follows:
1st:  Marvin Rettenmaier  -  $1,196,858
2nd:  Philippe Ktorza  -  $805,310
3rd:  Michael Mizrachi  -  $424,618
4th:  Nick Schulman  -  $256,235
5th:  Steve O'Dwyer  -  $192,176
6th:  Trevor Pope  -  $155,571
