Marvin Rettenmaier wins WPT Cyprus

Friday, 10 August 2012

A number of players have stepped into the winner's circle on the World Poker Tour more than once but none had managed back-to-back wins. Until now that is. Take a bow Marvin Rettenmaier who followed up his victory in May's WPT Championship event by taking down WPT Merit Classic Cyprus.

The German put on a masterclass in Cyprus yesterday, eliminating all five of his final table opponents en route to victory. After start of day chip leader Ron Azor succumbed in third it was left to Artur Voskanyan to try and derail the Rettenmaier express but there was no way back for the Russian who started heads up play with a 9 to 1 chip deficit. It was all over after just two hands with Rettenmaier's 10-J outran Voskanyan's A-10.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1 Marvin Rettenmaier $287,784
2 Artur Voskanyan $184,020
3 Ran Azor $118,360
4 Victor Parashiv $87,610
5 Joseph El Khoury $65,770
6 Kiryl Radzivonau $52,590

Can Mad Marvin make it a hat-trick. We'll found out soon enough as the WPT Parx Open Poker Classic at the Parx Casino, Philadelphia starts tomorrow August 10 and runs until August 15.
