Marty Smyth Finishes an Officially Good 2008

Monday, 15 December 2008

Marty Smyth has always been Bluff Europe’s favourite Irishman, narrowly pipping Dara O’Brien, Oscar Wilde and the Lucky Charms leprechaun to the post. His most recent win is a $1,000,000 score in the Ladbrokes Poker Million which adds to an ever-more impressive track record.

In 2002, he final tabled the Irish Open. In 2006, he went deep to come 15th. Last year, he finally decided to get round to winning the thing – only a small matter of defeating the largest ever field assembled for a European poker tournament and then besting Roland De Wolfe heads-up to win €650,000.

In 2006 he came 6th in the Ladbrokes Poker Million; last year he finished second to Hendon mobster Joe Beevers, earning $500,000. This year he reached a record-breaking third consecutive final before taking it down for $1,000,000. Oh, and did we mention he’s the WSOP 2008 Pot-Limit Omaha $10,000 World Championship winner ($860,000) too? No wonder they’re after his lucky charms…
