Martin Drewe wins Aussie Millions 2011 $1,100 opener

Monday, 17 January 2011

The first event of the 2011 Aussie Millions championship series at the Crown Casino, Melbourne, has concluded with jolly ginger-bearded Martin Drewe taking home the $200,020 AUD (about £125,000) first prize after defeating a field of 762 players (who bought in multiple times to take the prize pool to a round $1,000,000 AUD).

Over three Day 1 flights the field entered then re-entered the event but Martin Drewe made it further than a host of notable names including James Akenhead, Annette Obrestad, Tony Dunst and Richard Ashby in arriving at Day 2. He then proceeded to make it further than anyone, defeating Darren Kramer heads-up after winning with AA v JJ to take the chip lead and then QQ v A8 in order to seal the deal.

This was the first event followed by the $550 PokerPro electronic tables event. Currently the $5,000 PLO is being played out with Haibo Chu leading the remaining 18 of 151 players gunning for the $37,750 AUD first prize.
