The opening event of season 5 of the Amateur Poker Association and Tour (APAT) took place at the G Casino at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry over the weekend with Mark Briggs taking the English Championship title.

Briggs, from Solihull, outlasted a field of 156 runners to take home £3,600 of the almost £12,000 prize pool as well as the trophy, a seat in a UKIPT Main Event and the coveted title of English Amateur Poker Champion.

A PLO event ran alongside the main hold'em tournament with Paul Davis from the London Poker Meetup taking the honours.

The Aspers Casino in Newcastle is the venue for the next APAT event in April. Players can buy-in directly or qualify for the UK International Home Championship and the UK Amateur Poker Championship via tour sponsor 888poker.com.
