Marius Pospiech wins PokerStars Snowfest

Saturday, 22 December 2012

The last major European tournament of 2012 drew to a close yesterday with Marius Pospiech taking the PokerStars Snowfest in Austria.

The German outlasted a field of 194-runners who were competing for a prizepool of just over €188,000. Hopes of British success were high at the start of the final table with Toby Lewis holding the chip leader. The name Snowfest suggests coolers and the 2010 EPT Vilamoura winner was on the wrong end of a particularly brutal one, running his pocket kings into pocket aces in a blind on blind battle. There was to be no miracle for Lewis who bowed out in third.

Pospiech beat Sascha Zaja heads up to claim the €50,000 first prize, sealing victory when his AK held against the Croat's AJ.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1. Marius Pospiech (Germany) - €50,000
2. Alexander Zaja (Croatia) - €31,500
3. Toby Lewis (England) - €17,830
4. Marcel Koller (Switzerland) - €14,600
5. Christophe de Meulder (Belgium) - €12,200
6. Tibor Nagygyörgy (Hungary) - €10,000
7. Jean-Francois Prud'Homme (Belgium) - €8,0000
8. Hans Hoffmann (Austria) - €6,400
