Marco Figuccia Wins Italian Poker Tour Event

Friday, 16 October 2009

The Italian Poker Tour’s Nova Gorica event concluded yesterday, with Italian player Marco Figuccia defeating a field of 332 to take home a top prize of €160,000 after an epic two-hour heads-up showdown.

Marco vs Marco was the name of the game when the field was narrowed down to two, with eventual winner Figuccia taking on Marco Pistilli for over two hours – eventually, at 1am, two decisive hands played out to end the tournament.

Both flops saw a lucky card save Figuccia – the first hand pitted Pistilli’s KK against AQ, and an ace-high flop gave the new IPT champion an overwhelming chip lead. Just two hands later, Figuccia called an all-in with QJ against A7, hitting a Q on the flop to end the tournament and win €160,000.

The €2,200 Main Event was not without superstars, as Team PokerStars PROS; Italians Dario Minieri and Luca Pagano, both entered the 332-strong field.
