In Wales, the heats for PartyPoker.com’s Late Night Poker are underway.
The competition has changed its format to the way it was from 1999 to 2002 to put the emphasis back on the personalities that first made the tournament compelling.
Thirty-nine players have paid a $5,000 buy-in to participate and join ten others that won their seats at a special PartyPoker.com tournament. They will battle in seven heats featuring seven players followed by a semi final and a final with a total prize pool of $335,000, with $90,000 added by PartyPoker itself.
The final takes place this Saturday with PartyBets.com making Marcel ‘The Flying Dutchman’ Luske the 16/1 favourite, down from 25/1 earlier, to take home the winner’s cheque for $125,000.
“There was a steady stream of money for Marcel but it is not as if his heat can be seen as easy as it also features the likes of Annette Obrestad, Robert Williamson III, Jon Kalmar and Surinder Sunar,” said a Spokesman for PartyBets.com.
“We also saw money for Roland De Wolfe and Jamie Gold but it is victory for Late Night Poker legend Luske that will do the most damage.”
Joining Luske in Cardiff will be personalities and champions such as Dave ‘The Devilfish’ Ulliott, the Hendon Mob, Padraig Parkinson, Donnacha O’Dea, Simon Trumper, Jamie Gold, Rene Mouritsen, Michael Keiner, Eddy Scharf and Andy Black.
There are also two wildcards, Holland’s Maud Mulder and Poland’s Agnieszka Rylik, who will compete in the event, which was first broadcast on television in 1999. How time flies.
