They may have lost out on a huge sponsorship deal with Manchester United, but that hasn’t stopped Mansion from preparing a takeover bid for online sportsbook BetDirect. Rumour has it that the company are preparing a £10 million offer, backed up by recent statements that they want to expand through acquisition.
Mansion’s owner, Putera Sampoerna, is one of the world’s richest men. He has recently waved goodbye to his cigarette empire, receiving $3 billion from Philip Morris for the pleasure. He is also said to be lining up a £120 million (yes, that’s right) deal for the Les Ambassadeurs Casino in Mayfair, West London. And as that doesn’t seem enough to keep Mr Sampoerna busy, Mansion have just signed a £40 million poker tournament deal with the FOX network.
The BetDirect deal will push Mansion up into the top league with the likes of Bodog, Party Gaming and TradeSports, proving in the process that there’s definitely space for more competition at the table. Some might say the market has become saturated, but with Mansion’s success, it would be foolish to bet against them growing even bigger in the coming years.
