Pokerbot.com has announced the “first-ever, live digital real money Texas Hold'em tournament on a Carnival Eastern Caribbean Cruise”, scheduled for 23 to 30 September 2007.
'This event will be the first time in poker history that pokerbots can play in a live, human tournament with real money entry fees and cash prizes,' said Ray Bornert, owner of HixoxiH Software, which runs Pokerbot.com. 'With online tournaments, it's not possible to prove that a human or pokerbot was unassisted. But with live digital, it's possible.'
For seven days, players will compete in the same room using laptops and a live digital poker server, all contained within a closed local area network. Some of the players will be humans; some of the players will be bots.
The tourney will be composed of three Texas Hold'em tournaments and will crownthe champions for each of the three different limit types: fixed limit; pot limit; and no limit. The winners will each receive an engraved trophy ring and bragging rights via an official world champion title in their specific category.
According to Bornert, a spiral tournament system will be enforced, designed to help deal with large player populations as well as to increase the chances of seeing a top professional play against a bot.
'This is set to be the 'tournament of all tournaments,' Bornert added.
