Man Stabs Pal Over $5 Debt

We've heard of gamblers falling out over money but rarely seen anything quite as insane as this. A man from Florida stands accused of stabbing a former friend, with authorities suggesting that the pair fell out over a $5 gambling debt.

According to the Sun-Sentinel newspaper, 51-year-old Anthony Lemar Mells faces a charge of attempted murder after being accused of stabbing the man in the stomach and head.

The victim Leonard Hornsby suffered a host of injuries including a punctured lung, a punctured bowel and a lacerated liver as well as cuts to the face.

The 47-year-old told authorities that the argument started over an unpaid gambling debt for the not so princely sum of $5.

The Sun-Sentinel quoted an affidavit in which Mells admitted stabbing Hornsby with a knife he found lying on the ground of a car park. He was remanded in custody pending trial.
