Man Shot in WSOP's Rio Venue

Tuesday, 9 December 2014

The home of the World Series of Poker, the Rio, was the scene of a shooting this weekend according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The incident was the result of an ongoing investigation into a man who had allegedly carried out a string of armed robberies across Las Vegas. At around 5 in the morning the suspect was tracked to the Rio and spotted coming out of an elevator.

After being asked to stand still by police officers, the man resisted and despite being tasered he continued to struggle. Eventually the man reached for his waist which promoted the officers to open fire.

During the surveillance the man had made it clear he owned a gun and was willing to blow people up with the bomb he had. That information, combined with the man's actions inside the lift, forced the officers into drastic action.

The shots left the man dead at the scene and a handgun was later found on him. According to the police report following the incident, Las Vegas authorities claimed that no hotel guests were disturbed during the shooting and that they had "rendered the suspect and the crime scene safe."
